a Caixa (the Box)

Installation created for the Coletivo Gaveta Exhibition, held in 2008 at the Matita Perê Cultural Space in Porto Alegre. This exhibition was a parallel action to the Mercosul Biennial that year, part of the “Bienal B” program, which aimed to open up space for more artists during a period of intense cultural activity in the city.

The installation consisted of five wooden cubes, measuring 20cm X 20cm X 20cm, completely closed, with a peephole in each one. Through these peepholes, visitors could observe images of people “enclosed” inside these small black boxes. The photographs inside the cubes were illuminated by battery-powered LED lights.
